Michelle Desveaux’s work includes hand-crafted items for everyday use and purely personal art. Graduating from RISD in textile design, she started her career in NYC, working for companies such as Macy’s and Marimekko. During this time, her work was included in an exhibit at the Cooper Hewitt Museum. Leaving NYC for upstate New York, she began experimenting with quilting and assemblage, taking quilt commissions and exhibiting at various locations in New Jersey and New York. Now in MA, she has participated in Melrose Open Studio Tour and has been selected to participate in RISD Craft 2020, an annual juried show in Providence, RI.
For me, there is a link between crafting items for everyday use and reacting to events and emotions through art. When printing cloth and making functional items, I am responding to a practical need with an artistic solution. When using the same techniques for personal expression, I am responding to my own feelings through the creative process.
