Acrylic, Stains, and Dyes on Wood
234 West Emerson St.
As a sculptor, John has spent the last three decades building and designing numerous high-level projects. This includes apprenticing with an international glass artist casting glass for studio work and public fountains and building marquee signs for Royal Caribbean Cruise lines – a job he credits for his range of material knowledge. John now works in his Melrose-based studio designing cabinetry and furniture, but dedicates much of his time to studio painting. When painting, John uses traditional wood finishing media to exploit the luminosity of wood. Vibrant colors are used consistently to create abstract landscapes and complex color studies.
The painting that I am engaged in now is a convergence of woodworking and art making. Color theory is the catalyst that brings these two worlds together. Creating bold and colorful worlds is always my goal. Science, nature, passion, and the desire to capture the viewer’s imagination guide my hands through the journey.
